Groundbreaking Begins on Melbourne’s $134.6M Aged Care Facility by Icon

Excitement buzzed through Melbourne’s south-east as construction officially began on the Kingston Residential Aged Care Facility, a $134.6 million project set to redefine aged care in the region. Spearheaded by the Victorian Health Building Authority, Icon has been chosen for its exceptional design and construction capabilities to bring this visionary project to life.

The sod-turning event was marked by the presence of Minister for Health Infrastructure, The Honourable Mary Jane Thomas, alongside local dignitaries including Tim Richardson, Member for Mordialloc, Meng Heang Tak, Member for Clarinda, and Martin Keogh, CEO of Monash Health. Their attendance underscored the project’s significance and the community’s anticipation for the state-of-the-art facility.

Upon its completion, the four-story Kingston Residential Aged Care Facility will feature 150 beds designed to support residents with complex needs, such as dementia. This development is a crucial addition to the public sector aged care in the area, addressing the urgent need for specialised care facilities near the Kingston City Council.

Icon’s appointment to this project highlights its esteemed track record in the health infrastructure sector, following the successful delivery of significant projects like the Epworth Hospital Eastern Flats Redevelopment in Victoria, the Northwest Hospital for Specialist Surgery in New South Wales, and the Brisbane Private Hospital In-Patient Unit Facility in Queensland. This project not only emphasises Icon’s expertise but also its commitment to enhancing community health services through innovative infrastructure.

Looking ahead, Icon is excited to collaborate with project partners, including the Victorian Health Building Authority, Monash Health, and ClarkeHopkinsClarke Architects, aiming for the facility’s grand opening in 2025. This partnership promises to combine expertise from various sectors to deliver a facility that is not just a building, but a home where residents can receive the care and support they need in a compassionate and innovative environment.
